Andrew and I try to make a few, we normally do a ride over to Swanage via the ferry and home the long way. Would be good to arrange a meet up

Based in Bournemouth, I would be up for a local MT gathering.

I regularly go for off road runs on the Ox Drove and other local BOATS and hope to do Salisbury Plain soon if anyone wants to join me?

Cheers,

Ian

Yeh, give us all a shout if you do Salisbury Plain. Did it a few years ago. :D

I've done a few routes on the plain - have GPS and OS maps on my handlebar. Also regularly do the Ox drove / Compton drove route Salisbury to Shaftesbury and back. The Ox drove particularly has become pretty challenging due to deep rutting and mud holes with rutted bottoms (is there anything worse than a muddy rutted bottom... ) not that pleasant an experience really - especially on a 500 kick start only - get stalled in a deep narrow rut and you are in trouble - ask me how I know! Digging a space to operate the kickstart is a pain the neck.
On the Plain the old Marlborough road and the access roads across the top are a pleasant bimble - I tend not to 'go for it' especially as I am generally on my own and even a relatively minor 'off' could be a nuisance and a broken leg could be very bad news indeed given sometimes limited mobile phone coverage. I'd be happy to reccy a gentle route if people want - one suitable for road oriented tyres.

Thanks for the response guys and sorry if I sort of hijacked this thread- didn't mean to!

I know what you mean about the Ox Drove, although I quite like the challenge when it is very muddy.(....see attached piccie of a trip up there just before Christmas. Bike ingested quite a lot of water- as did rider- but a quick clean up and oil change had her running well again).

Frog, I would be very interested in your Salisbury Plain routes and as well as Phil, I know of at least one other local that would like to explore 'The Plain'. When would be a good time for you and any others?

Sounds like we have a plan forming :)
I'll reccy a route over the next couple of weeks and see what we can all do - prob something early May I would guess - how would that suit?
