I'm under no illusions regarding my ability. The paint looks shiny but I'm not a professional painter. The engine will be the best part of this rebuild, that's why you got the job, not me. If you can provide the cover please, that way we won't suffer any delays.

Finally got the engine cases apart after much heat and drilling! 4 of the bolts had corroded within the cases! Bit of a challenge! I like a challenge!!

Note the 4 rusty bolts still in the LH case!

Its in tip top condition inside, after the powder coating and a new set of rings it'll look and go just like new!

What condition is the clutch in? I expected some wear to explain the vibration (mind you, it might also have been down to a few missing mounting bolts.....)

Ill take some pictures as it goes back togeter Steve.. Slight grooves but nothing bad.. I'd say vibration would be down to loose engine mounts.. Motor is pristine inside and had the original clutch gasket so never been off before..

I feel like my head is already dismantled. Just compared the painted tank with the powder coated frame and they match perfectly. Unfortunately, as I suspected the plastics look too pink at the side of the rest. I'm not happy with the difference, I think it will spoil the end result so I've decided to paint over them (plastic primer and a flexible additive in the topcoat). The trouble is I need a higher temperature and my heater's broken.

It should stick ok Steve, but probably wont last on the mudguards.. I started by taking the blue plastics (and yellow ones!) to paint shop and they matched them for me..

Plastics now painted so that all my reds match perfectly. Washed out the oil tank with diesel - just in case any blast medium had found its way in - Fortunately it was perfectly clean. Swapped the headstock bearing (with careful use of a cutting disc on the grinder). Paul originally wanted to fit a K&N air filter but I think the original set up is better for water protection so I cleaned and painted the filter box. Then decided to make use of the fine weather and took the Bonnie out for a good run.

A little more progress tonight:
Head bearings and yokes fitted. Forks rebuilt, oiled up and fitted. The contrast of bright red and chrome/polished ally certainly looks impressive - far too posh to get dirty. Paul is toying with a few ideas for transfers/badges for the tank & side panels.
Any ideas anyone?
