I'll let Gary deal with that one....

But we were all surprised at the result :-)

Hehehehe, I was wondering why it hadn't been published yet. In these cases it's always important to remember that all the horsepower in the world is useless if you can't use it. :)

I think in Gary's case there wasn't much horsepower, but by God, he can use it....

Yeah, that's kind of what I was trying to imply--I've seen videos, he seems very comfortable and capable on the old MT. I'm still curious to know just how much hp Blue has, though--if it turns out that Gary can ride it the way he does with only, say, 20 hp, that will be an eye-opener.

In the iconic words of Pirelli - "Power is nothing without control"

Although Minters bike is near 3/4 the power of mine, this is irrelevant. The nearest we have been is in the snot of S Wales where I've managed to stay with him for a short while. Our riding styles/capabilities are close but he is a 'natural' rider whilst I'm not.
My intention has been to be in the possession of sufficient power to keep up with Gary within the Pyrenees comfortably without thrashing the knackers off a 350 motor. This was achieved this year.
Gary has sufficient power, control and map reading ability to obliterate anyone else in the Pyrenees event so there will be changes to 'Minty Pockets' this year somehow.

 Yep were gonna make minty pockets as detuned as my old blue! Which isnt as much as i expected!!

She made 25bhp at the back wheel which aint so bad for a tired engine in need of a bit of a freshen up! Although i must admit she does run rather well! Although i was a bit gutted when beaten by an MZ motor!

At the next dyno i'll be a bit more prepared. The carb works a treat - Mikuni flat slide.. The engine will be rebuilt and i'll have various exhaust systems to try.. Oh and a special i'm building for my twinshock MXer....

Were all the 500's running stock camshafts? I've got a 670 I haven't installed yet and I'm curious to know how much of a difference it might make, all other things being equal.

A 665 cam? That begs the question, what was the MZ engine equipped with originally? Is there a cam for the 500 engine that is even more mild than the 665? Or did you strategically choose the 665 for qualities it has over a hotter cam?
