Todays Welsh MT Dyno Day

Post by moose » Sat Nov 16, 2013 7:52 pm

Just thought i'd give a quick write up on todays MT dyno day organised by our very own Ady.

I loaded up the bike late last night and at 6am this morning set off west down the M4 to adys friends workshop in Bridgend.

I arrived at the shop just b4 the owner who opened up for a group dyno session

just managed to grab a quick mug of coffee b4 ady and yoof (aka nick) arrived after a journey yesterday of 8 hrs from Huddersfield down to Ady's. Fair play mate!

Also Ian made the long journey West from London last night on his bike (unlike me!) a recent mt purchase which had a Mz engine running a Standard Harley Cv Image

Eventually after a tour of Bridgend industrial estate team Sportax arrived ( Gary supported by Dawn!) with blue in the back of the Motorhome

so in all we had the folllowing forum members with their bikes

Moose - Harley Mt350 running standard pipe and mikuni vm30
Yoof - Armstrong mt500e racier pipe and mikuni
Minter - Blue Armstrong mt500 mikuni and racier pipe
Ady - Mt 350 with modified Aprilia 560 engine, dellorto pumper carb and fruity pipe
Thumper - mt350 with mz500 engine, cv carb and modded exhaust

After several runs and jet changes everyone seemed happy with gained improvements across the board

Great day out hope you have a great rideout tomorrow, cheers Ady thanks for organising another Mt meet

Hopefully i'll workout how to add some video's as there is some great footage especially of Yoof's bike spitting flames out the exhaust!

Cheers

Will be interesting to see which set up gives most power.
Shame there was no standard MT's to compare to though.
Did you notice any improvements ?

You don't need a parachute to skydive. You only need a parachute to skydive twice.

Ady's 560 beast had the most brake horse power @ the back wheel.. Knobley tyres didnt help on the 350 as it was all over the rolling road!

None of the changes altered BHP figures hardly but what they did acheive was the way that power is delivered. I think Ady was over the moon with his results as was yoof!

As we all know a free er flowing exhausts helps improve power but the silencer must be well packed. It would have been good to compare a bog standard 350... Maybe in the spring next year we can find one to bring along!....

For what we had to try out, five bikes would be about the limit for half a day.
Everyone saw a benefit to their bikes and in my case the jetting needed to go in the opposite direction to what I'd thought so it saved me no-end of trial and error.
I'm now on 55 pilot, 128 main in the Dellorto on a 560 with 604 head and std pipes with Supertrapp silencer.
The result was good punchy power (38.26hp at the wheel) and the annoying bogging at low revs that made technical obstacles a nightmare had now gone. Fuel economy has also improved by cleaning up the carburation
I'll leave it up to the other guys to detail their results.

The rideout was a success with just Yoof showing that he requires no riding instruction at all and he stayed upright a fair bit more than I did today. I twisted my leg on one fall that knocked my confidence a fair bit. My tyres are absolutely shot though and it's slippery as 'eck on the mountain.
I'm sure Dean would re-run the dyno for the same fee if it were required.

do you think the jetting would be similar for a 500 running a dellorto and supertrapp?

Similar I'd say. Do you have any carburation problems with it?

Standard paper filter fitted.
Large diameter cylinder inlet (the three screw fitting onto cylinder)
Apophis Samco silicone inlet hose.

glad your sorted ady.
ive no issues really, not since i took my carb off and gave it a good cleaning. i just feel it could be better.
at the moment it starts first or second kick with no choke but as the weather has got cooler it needs choke . once fired up i close choke and she runs fine. my rings are goosed and using oil .am going to give it to minter after the dragon. ill check what jets are in .ill see how she runs after that.

cheers
