How time flies....... I last posted about my project in Jan 2012 and it's sat in my 'out of sight, out of mind' garage ever since. Reading about other projects on the forum and having sold my 350 a year ago I've decided to get things moving again.
So, today I dropped my engine off with Minter to be checked over and to sort out the running issues I was experiencing that led to the halt in progress. While it's away I'll address some of the incomplete wiring and sort the various minor tasks that need sorting. Excited , too right i am. More pics to follow

As well as the 604 he,s trying to finish he is now committed to put back together the VW beetle which is scattered over his drive for next years Le Mans classic. On his promise to have it finished for then I,ve given his seat in my MG to another mate .

So, the newly rebuilt 640 motor is back on the bench awaiting fitment back into the bike. I have a little bit of touching up to the engine paint to do first but she's looking good.
While it's been away being 'Mintered' a few of the little outstanding jobs have been sorted out. One of trickier jobs was how to fit the pannier racks back on with the new CCM silencer I've fitted to the big bore system. I thought about spacing them out from the frame about 30mm but that would have meant extra bracing to keep things rigid. Settled on modifying the pannier frame by scalloping the down tubes so it went round the silencer, allowing me to use the original length mounting bolts. The pannier bags still fit so I'm happy with the end result.
Still not sure what to do about my battery. Chose a battery from a Yamaha R1 thinking it would spin the 604 but it's just not man enough, so I've no chance of it starting a freshly built 640!. Guess I'll have to get to grip with the kick start .

If so, Throb found a smaller high cranking battery from somewhere. I think it's on his blog
If you can fit a 350 battery in they will turn over the 640, just use the decomp lever and off it goes.

It's a modified 500 frame Roy so the space for the battery is very limited due to the frame tubes. There's no dog leg for the battery tray!
It did start with the battery I have but I don't want to damage my new spray clutch. I had thought about spinning it up with the decomp lever in and then letting it go, or even another battery in my top box.
When it's back together i'll take a closer look at sorting it. Gary started with the kicker and I weigh twice as much as him so fingers crossed .

If it's not used for a few days it will take several cranks, but then fires away
The decompressor will make starting much easier and save the sprag

You could always kick and when it goes over TDC hit the button A bigger battery and a Decompression lever sounds the best answer though.
