STEP ONE.
The tin pot chinese headlight I fitted is absolutely SHOYT so I had a brainwave: Why don't I take all the lights off? It will make it less prone to damage when I drop it, it should make the electrics simpler and therefore more reliable. It would also take it one step closer to the Scrambler look that I was obsessing about and it would make it (slightly) lighter. Then I'll just put it on a daytime MOT. I had no intention of riding it at night anyway so why not? So I stripped out the lights and the wiring.
Only afterwards did I get to wondering if it would still be legal for the Pyrenees next year???
STEP TWO.
There were three early influences that have affected by biking life ever since childhood;
1) My Dad and his bikes - Brit 1950/60s.
2) a book I read when I was about 10 about a copper on a Triumph T110.
3) Steve McQueen in The Great Escape.
So I thought "Why the hell should I paint my bike Silver when I could make it look a bit more like Steve McQueens? After all, I've got some green paint and it will save me changing the logbook.
Here are the results. What do you think?
OK so it's not Steve McQueens but I like it.

Re: MT 500 Scrambler update
Looks great but I think as you have the original (large) speedo it looks like it is a bit 'out on a limb' I got a Bates style H4 headlight from Stafford engineers show (the October one) for the flattracker. As a head light at night it is brilliant (no pun) and it has done well over the 3yrs it's been fitted. I think it would suit it (you could put a slit lens cover as per war time too)
If you want to have a look drop me a line, im stuck home pretty much 24/7 after accident.

Re: MT 500 Scrambler update
Your old 'tank' needs more than paint! A new clutch is next on the list. Did it always vibrate like that? In North Wales we swapped bikes for a few miles and he didn't want to swap back.
