MT500 upgrading into a MT604

Post by worz » Sun Sep 15, 2013 11:58 am

I've taken the plunge and going to try and make my 500 into a 600 ( with lots of help from the YOOF and Alex )

Here's the newish lump. But why is this photo upside down its the right way on my phone & laptop?

And if you think my garage is tidy its not all the carnage has been thrown on the other side

Watch that the engine don't fall on your head.

BTW what did you use to stick it to the ceiling?

Right I'm ready to start the fabrication of the frame I've been looking at photos of other members conversion and can see no reason why the frame is cut to the shape of the starter motor. Is there a reason why it cant be cut straight where I've put the zip tie. The bottom bolt hole and the oil pipe have to be moved so why not move the drain plug? I can see no strength in the last 2" below the bottom bolt hole and the amount of oil that you would lose shouldn't make a difference. What your thoughts please in case I've missed the obvious.
Cheers Gary.

Yep you're right you can just lop the end off like the 350 frame is and move the drain etc ...you could even stick the drain on the side if you wanted so you can change the oil without covering the front wheel in oil.

The only thing I can think is . If you remove the bottom bolt hole it will not be ridgid as the frame will be hinged at the 1st bolt. You need the 2 holes to give the frame rigidity when the plate get bolted in.
