Re: MT 500 Scrambler
Thanks for those Pete, I've looked a many similar pics. As you can see, this is what I have tried to create. There always seems to be a snag though, it either gets in the way of my leg, or the frame, or the rear shock or the chain.
I will be seeing the exhaust man today but I still think it will be better to follow the original route and sweep across the top of the gearbox and out the nearside where there is more room because there's no chain that side but I realise that I still need to leave room for the wheel to come out.

Re: MT 500 Scrambler
Time is pressing now and I'm starting to feel the pressure. There are a few too many temporary bodges to get it on the road in time for Wales. But, I'm happy to report that she is now running fine. I've taken her up and down the street and made a few tweaks here and there. The chainguard needs lifting a bit so I've taken it off for now. Then the lights stopped working. I suspect this could be due to the knackered old fusebox so I've ordered one online to replace it.
What has surprised me is how much smaller it feels with the shallower seat and the different bars. It feels like it shrunk in the wash.
The tank is still not ready so I've fitted the original for now just to do the shakedown test so it looks really odd at the moment. Hopefully I'll get an early finish tomorrow so I can get it to the exhaust man. He said he will need it for at least a couple of days. I hope this means I can collect it on Saturday. Monday's bank holiday, Tuesday and Wednesday I'm working away..... it's going to be tight.

Re: MT 500 Scrambler
OK, the bike is now with Top Gear Performance to have proper exhaust pipework done. They tend to specialise in the big bore boy racer type of stuff so he had no way of quietening things down. So a quick trip to M.T. Spares - this time M.T. stands for Mark Taylor in Bentley near Doncaster. He's got containers full of everything you can imagine for a bike breakers. We searched the shelves and I came away with a rear box off a 400 Husky. We plugged it into the exhaust and it was wonderfully quiet. As I've said earlier, I don't mind sacrificing a few horses to keep it inoffensive when green laning. Unfortunately this means I won't get it back til the day before we go to Wales so the 8 mile trip home looks like being called my shakedown test. So there won't be any more progress til Thurday night when I should be replacing the fusebox and fitting the silver tank.
Sweeping the empty space in the garage felt weird. Looking on the bright side, I should be able to get the Bonnie out over the Bank Holiday.

Re: MT 500 Scrambler
Skin of my teeth, at the 11th hour and all that....
Here is the bike as she will go to Wales.
Jobs outstanding before I set off:
Find a fuel tap that fits - or put the repaired MT tank back on.
Replace the rusty fusebox.
Jobs to do when I get back:
Get the tank painted. get some proper pods for the clocks. Put more packing in the silencer - they shortened it so although it sounds fantastic, its too loud. Replace anything that fell off or got broken in Wales.
See you tomorrow

Re: MT 500 Scrambler
Thank you Roy. I am quite pleased with the result. I just keep looking at it and smiling (twad sat!)
It'll look even better when it's finished properly. It feels good on the road too - mostly due to Minter's rebuild I'm sure.
