MT 500 Scrambler
Re: MT 500 Scrambler
I like that.
I would have to move the sidestand to the other side tho, a mate had one there, put it down and got off on the normal side, bike fell over

Re: MT 500 Scrambler
I like all these 'variations on the theme, though I'm trying to make mine more of a retro/60s thing.
More progress to report tonight. More of the wiring re-connected (Thanks again Gary). I've also made a template for the clock, warning lights and ignition switch. I'll get on with cutting it out tomorrow. Chain guard also now in place and I've found a helpful soul that reckons he can sort my exhaust so there will be a few quiet days next week while the bike goes to his workshop.
For those that might be interested, beside the bike is the 'wooden leg' starting handle. My idea is to try using my arms as a plunger to 'kick' the bike over and save my knees. Now that the engine is back in situ I've turned it over a few times but the technique needs practice. Paracetomol is probably going to be the easier option.

Re: MT 500 Scrambler
The guys that can do the exhaust want silly money and want the bike for longer than I thought so I've decided to sort out a temporary set up (read - bodge) until after Wales. Isn't it great when friends turn up in your hour of need? My mate Bob has helped me chop up one of the old triumph silencers and start to cobble something together. It won't be quiet and it won't be pretty - so it should fit in with the club quite well!
We also had the time to cut the rack down and fabricate the new 'dashboard'. Both are still 'Work in progress' but its progress all the same. I've had to move the speedo to the left because of the cable fouling on the new headlight. I'm still trying to convince myself that it looks ok.
I think the rack might look better in black - I'll see what it looks like after I've welded the brackets on.

Re: MT 500 Scrambler
Wow!! Looks really good Steve.
In my opinion try the chrome first, if it's too much you'll know pretty quick, black just might be too much of the same and the chrome may just give it a bit of a lift or better balance visually.
OMG, came over all elequent there, sorry about that.
Anyway if chrome doesn't work it's much easier to sand and paint than to have the piece re-chromed,(and cheaper).
My final bit of wittering is the speedo and lightcluster look very professional, excellent job, keep up the good work.

Re: MT 500 Scrambler
Staying with the eloquence, wait 'til you see the 'piece de resistance'. Dave at cyclops helmets has suggested that we etch the Armstrong / CCM badge into the space below the ignition switch - then it would look professional!
nothing else to report tonight, just been sorting the wiring out. Hopefully we could have a runner by the end of the weekend.

Re: MT 500 Scrambler
Didn't quite reach the stage of a runner. Pipped at the post by the distraction of family visitors, but over the weekend I've finished the exhaust and almost finished the clock/pod (still needs sealing and mounting). All wiring is complete but I need to check it before taping up and tidying.
the pile of bits on the table has almost gone now so I can't be far off finished. Next on the agenda is to finish and check the electrics (including firing her up) then the replacement side panels will need shaping, painting and fixing. After that I'll be waiting for the tank. If I need to I'll put the leaky old one back on to take her for a test run. Oh, and I also need to sort a pressed aluminium number plate; they don't break when you fall off and I think it will suit the bike better. Anyone got any ideas where I can get one?
