MT 500 Scrambler
Re: MT 500 Scrambler
Minter, Do you think it would be a good idea to fit a 16t front sprocket? or will the healthier engine give me enough grunt?
Previously I've had a couple of occasions when it felt a little too high geared on a some low speed short steep hills.

Re: MT 500 Scrambler
My intention will be for a bias more towards green laning rather than road or motocross. I think you're better qualified to decide which size would be best suited for my needs. Imagine you was taking this bike to do the twinshock trailfinder and then fit whichever you think is best.
Thanks.
(Tomorrow when I get time, I'm going to try and post some pictures to show my progress with the frame).

Re: MT 500 Scrambler
I think Throb meant if using the bike on the road a 16t is better. A 14 tooth is better for low speeds steep hills and tracks. 15t is standard, 16 t is great on my 350 on the road.Throb wrote:If you're using it off road, a 16t will be nicer.

17 is standard on the 500 though and to be honest it pulls it pretty well as it has the gruntappyarry wrote:I think Throb meant if using the bike on the road a 16t is better. Re: MT 500 Scrambler
16T sprocket fitted, cylinder fitted and head pulled apart..
Cylinder honed out too
Piston polished.. Rings are well within tolerence so theres a bit of a saving Steve!
Piston ring compression tool in action..
Cylinder on.. Cables tidyed..
Head now in bits, bearing worn out, seal not seated correctly, probably explains all the oil on the timing belt, valves letting by, Valve stem oil seals like bakerlite!

Re: MT 500 Scrambler
Here we go, my first attempt at posting photos (fortunately I found the tutorial).
I've stripped the paint off the front forks and then polished the ally. I can't make them perfect because of all the scars from its earlier life.
