Finally got there, so I think I can draw a line under this thread, everything appears to be working (with a bit of help form the forum members)
Been out for a ride around town, with a quick burst on the dual-carriageway, got over 55 which was better than last time. It's was only a short stretch and 50 limit, so I'll have to wait and see how it goes.
As it's the first time it's been used for at least a year, I best take it easy and give it a chance to run in again.
Next topic will be strip, remove rust, paint and assemble. Need to make her look better.

I can probably help a bit here.
Having recently had a chinese motocrosser, (built from the box) and my wife having several years in insurance.
What generally happens, and did with my Kinroad, most companies only have certain models on the books, if your machine is essentially a copy of another, (Armstrong / Harley Davidson), most companies will insure under the drop down details but physically change the details after completing the quote to accurately reflect the model.
Ideally you need to contact your company and have them change the make to HD on the document papers, this could be problematic with the DVLA though that said, I wasn't asked for proof of the bike make and model whilst registering so you might be OK there, you need to have it amended for general insurance cover though

Info still stands however, not all companies will do this this but the vast majority will, re the poster mentioning being cheaper to insure if you had the reg ready, that's nonsense as the bike has to be insured before you can regsiter with DVLA
