MT500... THE DOG....

Post by TDIPower » Thu Jul 30, 2009 10:32 pm

Well ive not really taken pics of the work as i was doing bits and bobs for Chris until it morphed into my bike.
I lost the 1st week of my hols due to my back, neck going to 50 on the pain scale of 1-10 (I havent had pain make me cry since i was a kid!!)
BUT ive made upfor it.

The engines back in having had the head off, porting work, new O ring and the big pig of stuck header studs etc.
some mods to the wiring,
the exhaust will go on tomorrow when the new studs come from Steve, Its having a CCM R30 stainless grafted to the standard can.

BUT I couldnt wait.... poured petrol into the carb float, cleaned the plug, full choke, slow cranked over twice, twist of the throttle and then a big boot.... sparks and LOADS OF NOISE from the exhaust ports :o
I then completly forgot how to turn off an engine, grabbed a rag and pulled the plug lead off.

I will sort out what pics I have and load them ASAP.

Stupid fecking chav zorst place dont go down to 1.75" so had to order some 45degree bits from Merlin to go from the CCM pipe to the MT CAN. Im well fecked off with them too... did the whole order, only delivery option was next working day at Ă‚ÂŁ9 odd meaning Monday :(. SO then after I had paid it comes up and tells me as its past 3pm on a friday it wouldnt be shipped until monday so i wont get it until tuesday. ( I could have had a day out on Saturday and picked some up from a place in Macclesfield)

Had a bit of a job fitting the CCM headers, the lower studs need to be 5-8mm shorter so the stubbies fit in fully and you cant use the spacers on them. I welded washers on the upper spacers so i can tie the pipes on.
The top bolt that goes through the down tube and holds the metal bash plate in place needed a bit of talking to MR grinder to make it understand how it would work for the left hand pipe :). I welded the nut on the same side then ground as much off as poss so it would do its job

The D shaped metal hoop bash guard also needed a session with Oxi/Acc and large hammer to clear the pipes.

SO to make myself happy I went and kicked it up with the CCM headers and pipe on it. blew the feckers right off (hadnt wired them on yet) Blue flames and a load of noise... SO wired the pipes on and fired it up again.. Loads of nice noise :)

Realised that the CAN is a 350 and the 500 needs extra mount for the panner so welded that on and gave it all a BBQ spray.

Need some bloody long bolts for the panniers!! I'll measure up in the morning and go get some.

Ill do a photo session tomorrow.

I have suffered with that on and off since breaking mine in 1982 on a motocross bike.

OK in the begining.... these it turns out were taken Aug 18th 2008. Chris was getting his hands dirty and looking a hell of a lot better than he does now but looked bad compaired to how he used to be.

You don't need a parachute to skydive. You only need a parachute to skydive twice.
