My 640 lump - under Master Surgeon Minter

Post by Bunker » Sun Jan 06, 2013 3:51 pm

I bought this for Ă‚ÂŁ150 earlier this year on ebay. It had come from a CCM that the owner got back 3 years after it was stolen! It had been partially stripped by the 'perps' and left in an ugly mess. The seller confirmed it still turned over. WIth it came the CDi, coil and carb. In that condition it was a punt, but I always like a gamble...Here is how it looked at first:

I started to clean it up:

Then gave it over to Minter to look at...

Our main man Simon has entrusted me to rebuild a 640 which he happened to stumble upon!

Its been attacked by rust as the clutch case was off it for probably ages.. its rusted the Main Bearings hence a need for a bit of a rebuild..

Image

A bit of heat manged to get half a sprag and rusted on primary gears off..

Image

Found some crude oil in the filter housing!

Image

Then came the big split..

Image

All is well inside, apart from main bearing!

Image

Anyone got a crank pushing tool?...

The offending article now removed - proper lumpy!

I can't remember, it was titled "breaking CCM" and he described it as a 636.
