short notice!!....Tywyn, mid-Wales, a new bridge tomorrow!!!
.....it's very short notice I know but tomorrow morning, the new Bailey Bridge is being lifted into place linking Tywyn to Tonfannau (old home to an army camp, now occasional MMC track).....it should be quite a spectacle, especially from the Tonfannau side. I think the action is due to start at 8am Sunday 6th January. There is a train bridge crossing the estuary there but the road crossing was taken down after the war....this one is for the coastal path but it looks big enough for an MT gathering!!....I intend to have a go at some time lapse photography!

Sounds like it could be interesting to watch. I might pop down that way and have a look when it's completed, I don't think my kids would be too keen to travel that far. I'll have to pass on tomorrow but look forward to seeing your photos

I used to stay at a site in Furnace when off roading in the Landy. Quite interesting they are putting the bridge back in there.
Just having a Google for more info and I couldn't seem to find much which was a shame. I was wondering why they have decided to put one back in, is it to just be a footpath/bridal or byway. Would be quite nive if it is like Barmouth where motorbikes can use it

I think it's going in as part of the coastal path......it must be about 6 mile detour otherwise.
I hope bikes can get over. I love riding over Barmouth bridge.....I'm optimistic that Machynlleth will get a new road bridge over the next few years....don't know if you've seen furnace lately but there's been road widening at Dovey junction......incredible bit of civil engineering (for mid Wales)......

" Bailey Bridge" ? Thought they stopped making them years ago.
It was all MGB when i was in the Engineers in the eighties.
Its good to see old Bailey Bridges still in use all over the world.
Maybe we could start another Bridge Club feature.

Hmmmm Bailey Bridge...... now that brings back some 'fond' memories.... But your right Arceye, the MGB did come into service for the 80s but I think the Bailey never went out of service just held back for more permanent installations.

I see the original Bailey Bridge linked two Army camps but was dismantled in the 60's when the camps closed.
