Thanks, that's interesting. Went back to Ashchurch for reallocation in 91, which would probably tie in with their use of Jap bikes in Gulf1

If it had been painted blue, with a civvy number plate, while with the SAS, it would have been given a tax diskWirralman wrote:Now now Derrick, you're being picky. Next you'll ask why a 1987 bike has a tax disc that expired in 1986But Military vehicles don't have tax discs.
Always interesting to see the military history of these bikes, and Land Rovers.

It's your bike, fit what you want, as long as you're happy that's all that matters. Before you say, 'still incorrect,...a lot better, you must agree!!

One the things about military vehicles is that once they arrive in a unit, they would gain their own "personal" variation. This is seen particularly when a driver/rider had a certain vehicle that was "theirs" or for operatonal reasons "field" reparis were needed.BLACKANDWHITEARMY wrote:....Before you say, 'still incorrect,...a lot better, you must agree!!
I've had 4 Tonners fitted out with cooker, fridge, lights, heater as well as double bunks. We even use to get the Command Workshops to make custom canvas to suit certain purposes. But REME are always want to be differnet (and comfortable).
So there is not really anything "incorrect" about minor variations, as long as they are fit for purpose. (but some like to play "spot the difference")

I second that I bought my MT350 from john back in March 2010. He had done a great job restoring it back to an excelant condition. Since then it has done several club meetings and been dropped in the dirt many times, I maybe need to send it back to jonh for a refurb.BLACKANDWHITEARMY wrote:Ian,
Thanks for the compliment! Although I can not take too much credit as I bought the bike last March from a lad called John 'Dinga' Bell near Stoke-on-Trent, he's ex-RAF Regiment, who knows his way around these bikes really well, he restores them as a bit of a hobby then puts them on the afore mentioned auction site. He's not a greedy lad, and you could do a lot worse than buying one of his restorations.
Dave.
