Great job there WIlliam.

Have you just fitted on a 500 top end to the 350 bottom? seem like a good solution to add a bit more oomph.

And now finally it is done and ready for an mot, i have been using it round the farm for the past few months just to check its all okay, there are just a few little things that need addressing, it is very tappety, i have had mt's in the past and i know they all have a bit of top end noise but this one seems a bit excessive, oh and the front tyre refuses to seat on the rim in the correct place, so its a wee bit wobbly at speed, but when thats done it shall be ready for the road i think!

Well done, this is the spec the army should have requested all those years ago!

Let your front tyre down and pour some warm very soapy waterbetween bead and rim and pump up to 40psi - that should seat it proper..

Good luck with the MOT

On a sadder note i just remembered another of the problems, my 6 speed box seems to be one short, i thought they only made the aprilia ones with 6 speeds in but apparently not, or some sod has nicked it and swapped if for a 5 gear set.

After a few months of use the sprag has finally died. So after reading the long thread on here about maybe getting away with just swapping the spring i got to work taking it apart. Ive never had the clutch cover off on this bike as the nut is very chewed up. So it was heated up with the gas and given the chisel treatment.
A picture of offending nut! After corners are filed back into shape.

Long story short, cover off, spring ordered. Carb parts ordered so it is a bit richer and will start better, and decompressor is to be fitted.

When walking down the road the other day i found a DAF lorry fuel cap, and you know what, its fits haha

If anyone is interested this is how the drive for the tachometer is done

Hopefuly when its back together it will get put on the road in time for summer!

If you're spring looks like that, I'd change the needle cage bearing also.

25X29X17 sprag needle bearing (Ă‚ÂŁ4.58 + Ă‚ÂŁ1.50 postage)x Vat from Simplybearings for SKF.

My bike used to rumble upon starting, I looked at the sprag but the spring seemed fine. Having changed the bearing it seems quieter BUT the fact that I have an ear infection and consequent reduced hearing may have something to do with the quiet running
