Ben's MT500

Post by ben » Fri Jan 23, 2009 12:56 pm

This is the second MT I've owned, this one is the baby of the MTR Club - frame number 0000039 :)

Had all sorts of problems since I got this one but now it's running sweet. New piston rings, new valve guide seals, reseated valves, new timing belt, reconditioned the Amal carb, new intake rubber, new filters plugs and oil, new tyre, new brake shoes, new speedo cable, fitted brush guards, fitted side stand (was missing), stripped and painted exhaust, new LEDs for the dash (thanks TDIPower), new LED tail and brake lights, DataTool snitcher alarm fitted. Touch wood, all running well. Starts first time, doesn't cut out. No pops or bangs. :D

Venom http://www.cjaccessories.co.uk/product. ... ctid=16218

The guards themselves are okay but the stuff supplied to fit them is a bit pish. There is a thread somewhere on the old forum about them.

Cheers for the link, I'll keep it in mind if there are no others to my likings (and budget!)

You don't need a parachute to skydive. You only need a parachute to skydive twice.

I would guess that 90% of the issues that people have with Amal carbs are a result of several years of inattention. They seem to work pretty well when cleaned and fettled.

Nice bike, Nice scenery :)

New inlet valves, new valve guides and seals but still a bit smokey - I'm hoping that's the oil burning off from it's rebuild. Will take it out for a long run tomorrow to see what's it like. I would have liked to do the exhaust side as well but I think the exhaust valves are very expensive. I went and threaded one of the small studs on the head - the long one on the exhaust side - are they uber-important? anyway, seems to run with five studs - for now  ;)
