All this talk of Wales!
I've never ridden in Wales and all this talk about it has inspired me. So, I'm planning to go on a long weekend, leaving on a Friday afternoon and returning on a Monday or possibly tuesday afternoon. I will be camping and plan to ride as much as possible once there, taking in as many off road sections as possible. Probably in two weeks time so I can book a few days off work and give my mt a service and order some spares for the trip.
Also any tips or advice welcome!
Anyone who feels like coming or meeting me there let me know. Ive not had a great deal of off road riding experience so just plan to take my time and see how I go although I hope to be riding for as much of the days I feel I can safely ie early starts, late finishes.

I am sure you will have a blast, just do not go on your own.

I have a backup mobile- on a different network, both have sat nav and gps and can be charged from the bike and I'll either have a handheld cb or pmr446 radio by then too.
A mate of mine is wanting to go so there will be at least two of us.

Just remember the green lanes are often in places with no or poor mobile reception. Do people still listen to CB radio these days?Ska_Ranger wrote:I have a backup mobile- on a different network, both have sat nav and gps and can be charged from the bike and I'll either have a handheld cb or pmr446 radio by then too.
There are some posts by those that thought a ride down a lane on a pleasant evening would be fun, but one mistake and they are either stuck with a leg under the bike, or it's in a ditch or similar.
In good conditions one person can lift a bike back up, but on slippy ground, it can be a different matter.
Have a good ride with your mate.

I must admit I had never thought of taking anyone on a ride out until I joined this merry band. Over the years I have been in many places as described above. And they were some great rides. Maybe when one is alone you take extra care, I don't know, I still drop mine and it's a bugger to lift it back up nowadays as I'm not as strong as I used to be however on balance it's not a bad idea if you have a willing companion. The only trouble with a mate is that often it ends up being competative and that is often the time when things go wrong.
Hope you had a great time Ska_Ranger.

I understand the dangers of going alone, I do however think that if your responsible, and prepared, there's no reason you couldn't go alone.

I'm afraid I don't see these two statements to be compatible

How are you going to ring some one or shout for help if you knock your self out?

No need for a lecture on the perils of off road riding. I do appreciate the input though. Let's leave it there.Ska_Ranger wrote:
