Fresh lick of life - MT500 Rebuild

Post by Barrie » Thu May 03, 2012 8:54 pm

This afternoon I started making some progress on the old girl, Its all in bits and I intend to re-paint it all, replace whats kaput, and hopefully do the frame conversion for an electric start engine.

I decided on using Halfords own brand 'Racing Green', partly for the price and partly because I like the colour and hey, its Green!

Then out came and engine (didn't expect it to be so heavy!)

Then started painting the frame (Im using 'smooth' Hammerite black, partly for the price and partly because its tough as F%$* when it dries out. Its not spectacularly mint or anything, but it will do the job. Besides, its better than the five different shades of green I had before.

Looks rough on here, better in reality.

More to come.

Love all the effort you are going to Barrie, but sorry to say I hate the colour, but beauty is in the eye of the owner, keep the photos coming.

my mt500 rebuild suffered from the same problem.
try soaking for a few days in releasing fluid,wd40 and the like. if they dont lever off try a puller.i used a puller only to pull the outer bearing off leaving the inner well stuck on the spigot.
if that doesnt shift it, itll be out with the grinder im afraid. i also tried heat but to no avail.
the rose joints are available and not expensive.
