Gary that type of extractor are a bit chocolate its a shame your so far away you could have used our impact extractor and the oxy/cet rig from work its better to use a small nozzle and heat around the area the stud goes into

Re: Project MT500 Twinshock Motorcrosser
Just a note for drilling out the broken stud. they go into the head parallel to the head face so you can get one of these 90 degress drill blocks (sorry don't know the real name for them) basicly a big lump of machined 'angle iron' with fillets. Bolt the head to the vertical face using the hole for bolting it to the barrel, bolt the hoizontal to the drill bed.
Im faced with the same sort of problem as i have 2 studs still intack to remove. I got rid of my oxi rig 2 months ago
Are you going to get cleaning the lump up and spraying?
how far are you stipping it back?
Will you be using stainless studs on replacment??
Pete

Tried to do something similar with my drill press clamp but it wasnt big enough to secure the head firm enough to drill, hence my attempt free hand! Ive given it a fair shot so now over to an expert! I'll stick to what i know best!TDIPower wrote:Just a note for drilling out the broken stud. they go into the head parallel to the head face so you can get one of these 90 degress drill blocks (sorry don't know the real name for them) basicly a big lump of machined 'angle iron' with fillets. Next step will be to clean everything up, sand down any major steps on the gear box ready for spraying, sand blast the casings then spray them.
Ive used stainless studs on my 604 from apophis last batch for the 350 engine are steel and brass also off apophis plenty of copper slip was applied to both sets of studs!
Good luck with your stud removal exercise! let us know how you get on Pete!

Re: Project MT500 Twinshock Motorcrosser
The gearbox is now coming on.. Its been resprayed and all fastners replaced with stainless with plenty of copper slip and all torqued correctly.
The cylinder now appears to be scrap due to the deep rust grooves, Any half decent 500 cylinders in need of a good home just let me know - cash waiting!
Next will be the clutch rebuild....
