I've just got back from a weekend of volunteering again at this years ATFF hosted by Austin Vince and his wife Lois Pryce. Once again it was a fantastic weekend of high quality, inspiring films and talks.
For me the highlight film was "The Ride" (2013) which followed four Aussie blokes (three paraplegics and one quadriplegic) who swapped their wheelchairs for quad bikes and embark on a 5000km journey across the outback connecting the locations where in a single moment , years before, each of their lives had changed from being able bodied men to semi paralysed in a variety of car and motorcycle accidents. It is a compelling film fuelled with bold humour and honesty as four men make peace with the tragedy of their past. It reduced even the most cynical member of the audience to tears.
Other highlights included "off the rails", again two Australians who cycled across Russia and Mongolia to China on recumbent bicycles. Complete lunacy and true adventure.
Less emphasis on motorcycle travel this year, more on personal endurance.
I recommend this event to anyone.
