lol, well done everybody! Lots of angry car drivers will do wonders for us, I'm sure. :roll: Was told earlier by a car driver (he'd been on M27) that bike riders are "W****rs" and that it reminded him why we're all called "Donors".

well if the car driver called me a w**ker i would knock him the Fook out

where was he when the bikes were protesting over the fuel prices
sat at home saying GOOD LADS it is disgusting the price of fuel

I was not having a pop at you

On the fuel ride outs the car drivers were sounding there horns and giving the thumbs up, why no cars on the demos. The Manchester fuel demo was lead by Mr whippy ice-cream van a few Taxis then the bike followed by the HGVs .

Paul was out on a demo today, on his way to my house he tagged on to a group who were there because this law will stop you fixing your own bike. All repairs have to go to the main dealers.

If this law was passed ten year ago there would be no MTs on the road.

So I better find one soon.

Well I assume they weren't out there today because most car drivers aren't members of the Motorcycle Action Group.

I also don't understand which law you're talking about?

As far as I can tell, there isn't anything about not being allowed to fix your own bike. The only thing it says is that it will be required for your bike to be inspected. We already have that, called MOT's.

The only proposal I can see which affects the UK may be for mandatory ABS. Which does not affect us or any enduro/trials motorcycle as we're in a separate class.

As far as I'm concerned it's all been hyped up by MAG (I am an ex-member) just to raise their profile.

The way to fight any of these proposals is not to annoy other British road users, but to annoy the MEP's with questions, concerns and tell THEM that you oppose it.

LOL, no worries, the thought never crossed my mind. It seems though that there's been chinese whispers spreading around biking communities which are wrong. And as far as I can tell, we're shooting ourselves in the foot because of it.

I'm somewhere in the middle. Whilst it could be considered scaremongering, MAG had to pitch it as 'the end is nigh' in order to overcome the apathy that's so common nowadays. OK, if they're introduced, these proposals won't actually harm us (f*** me, there might even be a net benefit!) but I can't help thinking that it's the thin end of the wedge. The latest figures estimate 40,000 bikes on the protest ride - admittedly that's less than 0.1% of the UK's population but it was a spectacle and, I believe, a worthwhile statement of unity and determination. I, like many others, don't like being told what to do (ooooh you webel) by a 'nanny state'*. Rightly or wrongly, I hold myself in high enough regard to be able to choose between a 2011 FireBlade with ABS or a 2011 FireBlade without ABS. By all accounts, the protests in France made the government back down on similar (albeit much more stringent) proposals. Consider it a preemptive strike. More legislation will continue to come from abroad and at home (continuous insurance scheme anyone?) that may or may not be detrimental. If the various participants in the decision making progress are aware that as a group, we can be mobilised quickly and effectively, there's a small (yeah, I admit it, tiny) chance that they may take the opinion of the motorcycling community into account.
