Northants report / thanks

Post by Bonnielad » Sun Mar 01, 2015 4:41 pm

OK, I'll set the ball rolling:
Special thanks to Shiney for organising the weekend and Kawasaki Rich for allowing us to knacker his field up!
It was good to meet the boys from the South West (Lardmarc, Skippy 1970 and Surfer Mick)
Not everything went smoothly but if it did we'd have nothing to talk about.
I think we totalled about 8 punctures, 1 broken chain and 1 unco-operative kick start. Countless spills, some spectacular offs but all harmless because the Northamponshire mud was plentiful, soft and very inviting.
Geoff Barnett tried bog-snorkelling in a ditch and his team had trouble pulling him out - mainly due to laughing too much.
I'm sure there will be some photos posted soon but the 2 photos I wish I'd caught was Sally's face after hitching a lift on the back of Minter's Blue through a particularly boggy patch. She was excited and frightened in equal measure. The second one was Surfer Mick having to slow down while a herd of about 20 Roe Deer crossed his path - pure magic, you don't see that every day!
The rescue vehicle broke down with 2 bikes on it's trailer. Fortunately Lardmarc knows his Land Rovers and he came to our rescue (he doesn't look much like a shite in nineing armour though), and it took Shiney and Thumper almost 2 hours to get Roy's Transit off the field on Saturday night which scuppered the plans for the Indian restaurant.
Getting off the field Sunday morning was a lesson in teamwork and it was great to see that no-one bugged out early until we were sure everyone was out safely. It took a combination of pushing, slipping and Shiney's Land Rover to clear the field. I haven't worked that hard for years!
I don't know if Rich's neighbours will want us there again because we left half the field on the road. If we had dryer ground there wouldn't have been a problem.
Thanks to everyone that went for yet another memorable MT weekend.

Steve.

I totally agree with all of the above :) Also thanks to Derrick for bringing along the kitchen and manning the campsite while we out on the mud. A great weekend as always, thanks to all who came along to make it what it is. :D

Thank goodness for ex army play things! The bikes coped well despite all the crash testing! Shiney's land rover saved the day rescuing 95% of us out of the slippy climb out of the paddock!

Big thanks to shiney Steve, rich and harvey, Derrick for bringing the G1098 trailer, and surfer Mick for pasties and catering.. Thanks to everyone else for the banter around the fire and for those who made the Indian and for all the fun on the ace trails!

Hope we can do it again next year with the neighbours approval!

I am glad everyone seemed to have a good time this weekend. We very much appreciate everyone coming and adding to the spirit of the meeting. It was great to eat, drink, and talk bollox sharing the comraderie that makes the club so special.

Thanks to everyone for helping with the clean up this morning and not just buggering off and leaving Derek, Rich and myself to do it!!

I thoroughly enjoyed putting my Landrover and winch through its paces..... Richards grass is going to take some rolling!! For some reason he has decided to hardcore core the lane now...

A big thanks to Derrick for his Stirling support and company this weekend, setting up the kitchen, managing the camp while we were all out and being part of the bike recovery team were just a few of the things he took on with great cheer. Thanks to a surfermick for breakfast yesterday (and bringing the pasties) and Paul taking up the job this morning.

I will post up a few photos later.

Thanks for handing me the keys of your Landy Steve :D :D :D :D , best one I''ve ever driven, until it decided to refuse to change gear.

But it showed true Land Rover beeding and was fixed with a couple of basic tools, and thanks to Lardmarc for riding out with them and effecting the field repair.

Cracking weekend. A bit of a slog getting there but it was definitely worth it. Food, company, trails, accommodation were brilliant. I managed to get oily fixing someone else's shoddy work rather than my own. :o Fell off plenty of times, brought a decent amount of mud back to Devon, got a really good look at Oilyrags sump guard as it was at waist height for most of the weekend (I would've been surprised if he'd got a front puncture) wheelying everywhere. Fish supper in a cramped caravan made up for getting back from LR recovery too late to make it to the Indian in time for dinner. The back of the hired transit stank of Pasty when we arrived but was replaced by the smell of fart after sleeping in it for two nights, Surfermick might lose his deposit if the hire company rep has a sensitive nose. Getting the vehicles out this morning made a proper mess of Rich's 'garden' which he took rather well considering how lovely it looked before we got there. Cheers for organising this event chaps, we'll be back.
