Generally speaking, I like battle scars on my bikes, but I have to admit that the way these engines look when you are done with them is really nice.

Most of bottom end done now and cylinder head. Just sorting liners and reboring to suit the decent first O/S Piston. I have the last set of Rotax 1st oversize piston rings! But all is not lost as Omega are making me some over size slipper pistons which should be ready by xmas.....

what is the difference in the design of a slipper piston against a standard piston. are there any advantages?

Its a 'racier' piston Brian.. The skirt only comes below the piston rings at the front and rear of the piston to cope with the thrust as the piston is forced down.. The sides have no metal apart from what holds the gudgeon pin in.. Less friction higher piston speeds.. They will also be slightly higher compresson as each valve will have its own pocket instead of a slot for a pair of valves..

Just the cylinder to sort with liner and rebore etc.. I have the last set of oversize Rotax rings for the o/s piston which is in good shape. Soon as the cylinder is back she will be on the test bed..

Its been an interesting one as its highlighted a few more bits which are hard to get hold of as Rotax stopped makeing certain bits years ago. With new o/s pistons and new ductile iron liners in bound i should be able to keep these old motors going for another 30 odd years!

Picked up the rebored cylinder today! Fitted the very last set of Rotax 89.25 rings (I have 1 top ring left if anyone has the other two!)..

Starting to take shape now!!
