Front wheel now overhauled and painted
Petrol tank was a bit rough but cleaned up quite well and does'nt appear to be leaking

as can be seen their was lot of crud in the tap which was stripped and cleaned withcarb cleaner and a wire brush
I've only brush painted at the moment as it will be used as a winter hack and let me concentrate on restoring my other bike.

Looks good and so much better ,...did you paint the tank your self if so what was the paint used ,....

more importantly...what laquer did you use? is it proof against petrol?

The rust on the tank was sanded down then treated with jenolite it was
painted on the underside with a paint I got years ago which the BBC used to paint galvanised masts.
I believe its called micacious iron oxide. I then painted it with an old tin of valspar enamel and then flattened it with 120 grit sandpaper then applied a couple of coats of army nato green , which if lifted by petrol means I'll just flatten it and touch up when needed. Thats the beauty of army bikes they don't look out of place when brush painted

And so the saga continues, stripped the rear mudguard off of the bike today after much swearing and wd40 eventually got the retaining nuts and bolts off . then went to unplug rear brake light assembly and every wire broke at the spade terminals. I then tried to get the two nuts holding the the whole unit on, but they were so badly corroded I had to hacksaw the nuts off . This would appear to be a problem area so I've decided to try replacing the metal nuts with plastic ones ie same as for numberplates and hopefully this should cure it.
I then tried a trial fit with the indicator horn and light assembly which was so tight it was removing the paint from my freshly painted handlebars F'#ck=-g hell . On further inspection I found that if you put the allen bolt in from the opposite side and place a washer in the gap you can then CAREFULLY enter the bolt and using the washer, increase the gap enough to give you the clearance to slide it on no problem. Yippeee

Anyway next job is paint front forks,front mudguard and rear mudgaurd then its
AAAArgh this lot to clean up. Cheers for now Jim.
