it started so small

Post by ASHCROFT » Mon Mar 08, 2010 8:23 pm

well seen as the clutch cable went i though whislt doing that i will.... and that's how it started.. but it so far has ended in me breaking the bolts that the exhasut headers fit to the engine on, one bolt cam straight out but the other 3 snapped. ********

only way i can think to get them out is to find a mate to weld a nut on the end to get out of the engine ... any tips!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i thought i was gentle and wd40 them enough but obviously not - see

this then lead to more stripping as though sod it might as well do the whole frame... bit tight if going to get it done for stafford. but a mssion is a mission...

hi,
you could start by filing a flat on the ends of the studs and centre popping as accurately as pos. then take a smallish drill and drill deep enough to take a stud extractor.if that doesnt work you can then drill slightly bigger and bigger stud extractor.if this fails use a 7.5mm drill and drill the stud out. it goes without saying carefull is the word.
have fun

I don't think they will come out with the suggested stud extractor, it'll just snap off in the pilot hole and you wont be able to drill that.

Try welding an oversized nut onto the stud so you get a good weld and good heat applied. I removed my three snapped studs that way a week ago.

Be who you are and say what you feel because those that

no :o dont use a stud extractor as i have tried that approach before and snapped it in stud and no matter how hard you try you wont drill an extractor :x ,
me personally would heat with a blowlamp and get a good pair of vice grips and use them ,
but if they snap drilling is the only option start with a small one working your way up and when you get near the size use an old screwdriver and chap the sides of the stud in on itself , ,,,worked for me ;)

get proper plus gas pen oil on them everyday morning and night and get on with something else (find that oil leak) every other day give the studs a heat up with a blow gun, then more plus gas... then after a week try with the mole grips. just nurse them, apply the pressure on the grips to undo and tap the end of the stud with a hammer to try and shock free. see how you go with that.
