Project Oddie

It's called that because the farmer I bought it from looked suspiciously like Bill Oddie  - unfortunately I don't have a picture of him..
This is the bike when I found it in May

It was uncared for in a barn and covered in bat guano

This is what happened next - with much help and advice from the forum, and a little help from my youngest son - thanks everyone :)

And this is what it looked like after being powder coated - still waiting for the tank though.
It was shotblasted undercoated and had two top coats of RAL 6020 with 70% satin finish

Now I just need to remember where everything goes ... no doubt I'll test your patience with lots more stupid questions, but I'll post photos as I go with the rebuild - don't hold your breath - this may take a while ...

Looks good so far.

You will get there Nick.

Mine is nearly done, taken me 2 plus years hence why I call it, "Perserverance".
Persy for short.

This forum is brilliant..without it I would not be as far as I am.
So fire away with those questions, always someone to help no matter how daft(to you) the
question.

Happy Building :D

Thats interesting - you have the pannier BOX racks like on the Can Ams... this one on ebay has the same ones:

I have an old set of Can Am boxes, I wonder if theyd fit.....

I hadn't really given the panniers much thought yet - it seems a long way off til I'll be wanting to fit them - but I'd be keen to end up with some eventually - do you want to part with yours?

Ahh glad you said that, i had been scratching my head for ages trying to work out what those were!

Are they to fit panniers like the red ones someone had at Utoxxeter?

Thought it was time to post an update on my 500 project - it's been a while, but I've busy with work, moving house, kids, and all that other stuff that gets in the way of what we all really want to do all day ;)

http://www.flickr.com/photos/nicksmt500 ... otostream/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I've since got the engine back in, and am busy trying to remember where everything goes now

Thanks a lot to all those who have helped me enormously by answering my naive questions - this is the first time I've done anything like this and it's been great fun so far, and a huge learning curve for me :D - no doubt lots more questions to follow when I can't start her
