500e project - nearly there!!

Thought i should add a few more pics.I got the motor in without too many scratches on the very fragile VHT paint (needs to cure properly yet, just don't know how durable it will be long term)

A few notes to add about anyone making a hybrid using 350 engine bits....

The kickstart is not supported properly by the 350 engine casing.I had to make a spacer after the shaft kept moving and popping the spring out of the casing :(

If using the original 500 camshaft cover and backplate, they both have to be cut/shaped around the 350's cover near the starter motor.

Although the primary filter location works quite well,i shaped (dented) the exhaust to give a decent air gap around it.

After "guessing" where to move my battery mount to, i discovered that getting the battery/side panel and original airbox to all work together is pretty tricky and quite critical.I just got lucky i suppose but it's still a tight fit. (Using an R6 battery btw)

I've still got to fit the breather in which will need modding to raise it slightly to clear the oil pipes from the filter.

Just waiting on my new Mikuni to turn up now.I have a nice fat spark so fingers crossed!

sorry mate, it was one of those days when i wish i had the camera, and was dying to get it built up.Regarding the kickstart spacer, i posted on here the other day about it and Bunker put a pic up of the 350 and 500 cases side by side to show the difference ;)

I seem to recall that this is one of Jim Burn's old bikes - A fitting tribute indeed.
