An interesting day.
Working near Oxford so that gave me the opportunity to collect the rebuilt engine from Minter. He rigged the engine up and fired it up. Even without a silencer I'm sure it's quieter than it was in the bike. I'll be calling at LMS on my way back up North to collect a few more bits then all I need is the time to get on with it..... Getting giddy and excited now Mummy!

Yep good to see you Steve and glad the engine started on the test bed! I hope it starts as easy when back in the bike with your hand kick start device!

See you in North Wales..

Fascinating project, can't wait for the next chapter.
There's going to be a short delay though. . .
Despite protests and itchy fingers, she who must be obeyed has taken him clothes shopping so that he's more man at C&A than troglodyte!! Frustrating or what?

... or should we call it a Wooden Leg? Until the engine is back in I can't try it out. Then there will be the problem of carrying it. But most awkward of all will be when you're up to your axles in mud and then stall it. I reckon I will still end up with painful knees cos I won't bother using the stick will I? Its much easier to swear and swing your leg than it is to start messing about with a cranking handle.
On a more positive note: the postman has delivered a shiny new Mikuni Carb and a straight rubber plug cap. Then I went to collect my saddle. This is the original saddle with some of its nose cut off, then an inch and half sliced off the top, then a gel pad inserted and re-covered 60s style. Over the next few days I'm aiming for some good progress now all the bits are here.

It amazes me the evolution of the MT. I've been a member for about 4 years and have seen alot of different types of development of these bikes.
We have Minter going off on the sport competition route . Now we have a retro route from Bonnylad.
We have members trying to sqeeze more power out of there engines.
The good thing is everything is shared. This is what makes this club so special.

Steve you are setting the standard here and it is looking very good.

Look forward to seeing it in Wales as does the rest of the club. I think a few will follow you vision.

Roll on Wales.

Chris

Image he's not the messiah - he's just a very naughty boy!
Believe it or not, this photo represents my whole weekends progress; Not happy with the finish on the swinging arm meant a proper respray was in order. Then the wheel bearings needed swapping, so after bearings had been found and the paint had cured enough, I could start putting the back end together. I've also found a way to re-use the original fork shroud/headlamp brackets by swapping them round to create a narrower gap to mount the smaller headlamp but you'll have to wait for a photo on that because the enthusiastic squaddie that daubed the anti-radar paint managed to coat all the rubber dust covers and I won't put it together until I've properly scrubbed them clean.
