I've been through a whole bloody bottle of dot4, I tried the elastic pulling the lever overnight and taking the master cylinder off, I might get a syringe before I give up as that will be easier than trailering the bike around. The brake line I've just fitted is quite a bit longer than the old one, I think this could be causing problems. Where might I find a syringe? I hate brakes, they always give me trouble.

Wirralman, are you talking about on the brake lever?

I'm talking about where the front brake lever meets the master cylinder, Sorry if unclear.

If you go onto Tutorial section, then look for thread Individual job Instructions with tools and parts list, you'll find this link http://mtridersclub.freewebspace.com/index_1.html Go into MT350e and download 2340-H-200 721 the commercial parts listing. Go to page 76 and you will see an exploded picture of the front master cylinder. The nut I'm referring to is item 10 the Jam Nut which screws onto item 11 the Adjuster stud. To get maximum travel on the piston, I took the nut up to almost the end of the stud.

Also, it may or may not be relevant item 14 Dust cover, has a small plunger in it. When I ordered a new one of these, the new plunger was a fair bit shorter than the old one. I doubt if I could have bled the brakes had I fitted the shorter new one.

Tue - Managed to get a vacuum pump off a friend. I think the banjo bolt may be letting air in and causing the problem so have had to order another. Hopefully have this all finished before this weekend.

This is driving me insane..

The problem is that I've replaced the brake lines, I just got a new banjo bolt cause I thought the one that came with the new lines was the problem. But they both just spit brake fluid out when I pump the brake. I've been playing around with washers and it seems I have eliminated the spitting but it's still not bleeding. I took the bolt back off and I can see there is fluid going into the calliper but it still wont bleed (not even the fluid I can see in it - WITH the vacuum thingy). So I've just bled the brakes on my other bike to make sure I'm not a total moron and that went fine so now I'm stuck thinking what the hell do I do with this bike? I think I may just have to buy a new standard brake line unless anyone has any ideas? The calliper should be fine - it was working before. :evil:

Thanks, I'm actually doing the front calliper. I'm going to have to keep trying, I just feel like I'm missing something that's staring me in the face. I think I've used the method you describe before, hitting the grips with a fist then jiggling the lever. I'll give it go. I'll try anything at this point. Damn brakes.

i find the easiest way is to take the caliper off wedge something the same thickness as the disk between the pads and get the caliper as high as possible, then open the bleed nipple and all the air will rise to the top, a couple of quick pumps and the jobs done.

Just a thought, when I tried to bleed my rear caliper, I couldn't get it to work. However, the bleed screw had lost its rubber dust cap. After unscrewing the valve I found it to be full of silt, and the ball bearing beneath it was corroded on its upper side, perhaps it was stuck onto the valve who knows, but may be worth a check.

Nothing after 2 hours but a sore back. There's something wrong with this that I'm not seeing.

Thanks wirralman, my bleed screw was actually blocked this morning, I blasted it out with wd40 then cleaned it in brake fluid and it was fine. Checked it again and it's still hissing witht he vacuum attached so I don't think that's it.

I'll take the calliper off tomorrow, I doubt it'll bleed but it's worth a shot. I'm still suspicious of the brake lines/bolts. I may order the stock one just to check.

When you take the caliper off, it might be worth checking that the ball bearing below the bleedscrew is free. Thinking about it, would a vacuum machine drag the ball bearing up into the bleedscrew and prevent it bleeding ?

Have you tried tapping the banjo unions with a spanner? It sometimes releases a few bubbles

For information a front brake hose from KL M is Ă‚ÂŁ38.50 PLUS Vat.plus postage. I don't think that is for the original style hose either, I think its a Venhill hose to the right length.
