From the ashes
Re: From the ashes
My time in the garage has been split with the MT and my triumph Herald. I have had the engine out of the car for a few weeks and it went back in at the weekend, still need to get it running so not had much time to spend on the MT. At one time I had 3 engines in bits, the Rotax, the Herald and my BSA B40. I've thrown the BSA back together again quickly and pushed it to the back of the garage so I can concentrate on the MT.
Following the bent frame fiasco ( see general MT chat) I have been spending my spare bike time stripping the spare MT. It is very rusty and some of the nuts and bolt have just snapped off, not to worry, thanks to George I have a nice box of new fasteners. The strip down is rapidly filling my garage with all the bits and pieces, hopefully I won't loose any unlike my Herald !
I think I need to make a decision on what to do about the engine, I would like to keep the original but I feel its going to be expensive. The donor engine does not run, do I strip it for the bits I need for my engine or spend the money on the unknown engine ?
Some photos
My weld on the swing arm , not tot bad for a novice

Re: From the ashes
The engines are pretty well bullet proof if not fire proof...
Any second hand engine with half decent compression is likely to be usable
I've bought 2 now for about Ă‚ÂŁ300. They do come up every so often on fleabay or talk to http://www.ebay.co.uk/usr/military-vehicle-spares-ltd" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; who sometimes have engines for sale

Re: From the ashes
I have been spending time on my Herald, with just the odd moment on the MT. I had a go at the engine today. From this,
to this
I hope to get the frame back soon, and would like to start putting it back together. Still a lot of work to do on the engine but there are few engines up for sale on a bidding site.
