MT500 - Rebuild
Re: MT500 - Rebuild
I think I may have a 350 clutch lever and lighting switch cluster. I will post a picutre when I get a chance, and will probably have to start the long hunt for a 500 item!

Re: MT500 - Rebuild
If it's set up to use the 350 switch gear and works properly I'd probably stick with it as the 500 one is very brittle and breaks easily and with the 350 one you can use an MX clutch lever and perch which are MUCH cheaper and easier to replace.

Thanks, sounds like I'll stick with the 350 switchgear then.
Picked up my engine cases from powdercoaters today, finish is excellent, I just need to clean the dust out where it has got past the tape.

Re: MT500 - Rebuild
Thanks, I set out with the intention to build a bike that would survive the worst of many winters, so it seemed to make sense to powder coat the engine as well as the frame for increased durability.
I had it done by the guys at RPA Motorcycles in Bristol, top quality, fantastic service and plenty of experience.

Not next week but hopefully not too long now as the engine is the only major assembly that isn't built now.ERNIE wrote: Will be great to see the finished bike next week
It should come together pretty quickly once the engine is back together!
The real issue will come if I have made a mistake in my new loom!

Re: MT500 - Rebuild
A quick update.
Loom almost completed just need to fit the engine to finalise.
I put the rear swingarm back on as I was feed up of having to lift it to move it!
New bearings are now in the case, and the transmission and oil pump are now back in.
I decided to paint the exhaust as well as there was a fair amount of rust and pitting on hte downpipes! hopefully they will last a little bit longer now!

Re: MT500 - Rebuild
A couple of fustrating days, nothings ever simple , but fairly good progress overall!
I have since fitted the alternator cover and the sprocket cover.
Is this normal that the carb intake doesn't sit centrally to the airbox?
I ended up feeding the airbox to carb rubber onto the carb through the airbox in the end after having stuggled to get the carb rubber onto the engine twice!
Now have the fun job of getting the other engine mount bolts into the frame.
Looking forward to having it back on the road now!
