I finally got around to doing some work on this bike today. I pulled out my blasting cabinet, set up the compressor, gun filled with shot blast and my box full of bits. All happy. After de-rusting about 5 parts, I heard an odd noise coming from the garage. So I went in to investigate. There seemed to be an air leak coming from the moisture trap, but before I could disconnect it the regulator blew clean off it and hit the roof. I SH*T MYSELF...... So I think I may just get some wet n dry and rub it down by hand. Oh and a change of undies to.

Where is the problem, does it not take the paint back to metal when you blast it? Are you using a high enough pressure or is it the paint or oxide that is hard to remove?

The reason I ask is because a chap near me has a home made kit and it works very well. His box is made from old windows the sash type and he uses a hoover to extract and there is no problem with dust in his workshop.

BTW, how much of the media are you getting through?

Thanks,

I have an aldi 2.5hp compressor and spot blast gun. I have a home made cabinet that keeps the mess manageable. Never blasted anything before so am on a learning curve. May need a better gun or more powerfull comp. Any tips welcome. It does get down to the metal and ready for primer. I run the comp at 7 bar about 120 psi. But the pain is quite tough. Rust comes off in seconds.

Latest update on this slowly moving project.. After an ear bashing that nothing was getting done on the bike. I have had to bite the bullet and PAY someone to blast and paint my bits. Not looking foward to the bill but can't wait to see the results. Will post the pics when the parts come back.
