Frog didn't like the loose beach pebbles (behing the solid berm the bike is on) and I had hop off and run along side for a 100 meters or so to stop bogging down.


Gave up on that and headed down a gravel track with the Pacific Ocean on my left, lake Ellesmere on my right and the Port Hill watching on.


The MT did not miss a beat and made short work of the gravel and the tarmac twisties on the way across Gebbies Pass to Christchurch.


Some bush tracks are next on the list now I know Frog is up for it.

I used to live in Bramley and miss the area to this day. Had lots of fun on the Byeways (that were open). Beautiful part of the world and I still miss the history in the UK, not to mention the world class ale. The beer here is not the best, although Speights do a passable mild.

have travelled around a good few of those gravel roads in NZ, they go on for miles, wrecked a few tyres on our old van, but beautiful scenery.

Defo, I've been banned from taking the car anywhere near them after taking the paint off the leading edge of the seals. Good excuse to ride the MT and look at a nice Series III Landy to take advantage of the tracks.

I have ridden on the beach down at Greatstone and Dungeness which are near me. The ride is sooooo difficult. I keep the gear low the revs high and try to keep on anything with a tinge of green on it as they seem to support the weight more. You can't have anyone behind you or they are blasted with the gravel stream that is ejected.

I hadn't thought about jumping off and pushing, If I'm ever silly enough to get myself bogged down on that stuff again I may give it a go, Trouble with me is I can hardly push it on the road if it is uphill I can just see me with a jammed throttle doing a Randy Mamola on the beach front.

Nice one and a great video, brought back a few memories. The gravel at Dungeness is very similar albeit flint, but the technique is the same. Same other worldly feel to the place as well.

Had to time my jump back onto the bike just right as the back wheel hit the firm stuff. Nearly pulled my arms off. Lesson learned for me. Strangely, other than some poking with a stick to get the pebbles out of the swing arm pivort and chain slipper the only damage was a few stone chips to the rear brake rod.

There are bikes and then there is the MT.
