pannus de grysanto

Post by NVNL » Tue Dec 27, 2011 7:03 am

I'd very much appreciate some collective MT brainpower on this question,

What is a "pannus de grysanto"?

Full soggy context here.

Pannus de grysanto

Post by NVNL » Tue Dec 27, 2011 7:53 pm

Well, David points us to pannus as a Latin word for cloth and Panoramio shows us photographs of somewhere in Spain called Grisanto so perhaps poor Alice was drowned for a bolt of Spanish cloth.

Hmmn.

This is in the park where we stopped for lunch on the 2011 216 ride. Naturally everyone was too busy eating and gassing to get as far as the river.

Voussoir comes to us from Old French vosoir, from Vulgar Latin volsorium, from Latin volvere to roll.

Wet, wet, wet

Post by NVNL » Sat Dec 31, 2011 6:10 am

In 111227 Dirty deeds on the River Seaton or Seythin we learned of the foul murder in 1301 of Alice, daughter of Matilda of Miriefeld.
Despite the best efforts of Bridge Clubbers across the World Wide Web the precise definition of the pannus de grysanto for the sake which Adam de Trota added robbery to murder was left unresolved so Johanna the T100C and I took off to see what if anything the scene of the crime had to tell us eight centuries on. Tyres were pumped up, and the engine oil level checked. We set off not only hopefully but exultant. Riding good.
