Im always STAGGERED when visiting there, Im 200% pro army etc but you can see why there is so many financial cut backs in the MOD when you see lines upon lines of BRAND NEW vehicle going OUT through Withams......not just cheap vehicles either....unless I have it wrong, this stuff they buy then dont need so it sells for about 20% of what it cost. Crazy.

Simon, the problem is resupply.
You have to have sufficient stocks to resupply when the sh*t hits the fan.
It's no good getting 5 vehicles blown up then having a 6 month wait for the requisition to go to the manufacturers, for them to then make them and fit them out, send them to the MOD, have then 'in inspected', painted, issued with CES, registered and shipped to the unit.
The military isn't a business and never will be. However, the Govt bean counters think it is and are slowly destroying it.
Look at the fiasco in Afghan, during the early days, when we ran out of ammunition and had to buy it in from Belgium and even India.
Thats why there will always be military surplus and why it is necessary. Long may it continue I say.
Just my views.

When I asked about the amount of Land Rovers being sold that looked as if they hadn't much work, I was told it was cheaper to get rid of them and hire a Nissan for when the vehicle was needed.

Got to be prepared though.
Landrovers have had their day as a GP vehicle due to the changing threat, hence a lot of the kit is also obsolete.
If they had dozens of mint MTs we wouldn't be critical
