That´s the reason why I prefer non-German bikes

Yeah, thats the problem with German bikes. Overpriced, overweight and over here.
Stick to Harleys.

I had an early K100 and don't remember changing any parts apart from tyres and brake pads, after 8 years commuting all year round,I stopped using it,and got nearly the same money back that I paid for it.
Superb reliability !

My uncles k100 eats brushes on the starter as well but annoyingly on the positive which means the whole brush plate assembly needs replacing odd design. also burns oil but runs fine.

They add zinc to speed up production process.which is why late boxers rot with a white rusty stuff and older ones dont...always been run by beancounters BMW...love em, and hate some of em, wouldnt get one again...done it....!! and few great ones left

Looks great.
I once had a CD200 (basically the same) years ago, as a temporary stopgap to do an insane 100 mile a day (!) commuting trip from south coast to outer london ,at full throttle pretty much all the time (top speed about 70) , bike cost me £100 and I expected the engine to blow pretty quick but it just soaked up the abuse for 15000 miles of that until I bought a faster bike ! ( was changing the oil every 4 weeks = 2000 miles but minimal other attention) , actually rode the thing out to Germany once with the plan that if it died I would buy a shovel and bury it
- needless to say it did the trip no probs at all .
