I rebuilt Moscow Johns Moscow Engine - it had been there and back - TWICE! It never had piston slap and the rings were still just within tolerance! Noise is usually tappets and timing gear bearings..Funkletrumpet wrote:Will certainly bear you in mind if it doesn't sell.Minter wrote:Hi Funkle,
If you have a change of heart bring it to Sportax for a full service - I'm sure the noise problem can be solved..
I rode it back about 80 miles when I bought it and it certainly performed the way people had lead me to believe it would before I bought it (60 mph no problem along A Roads).
It's a mystery really. I'd have thought anything serious would have shown up in performance.
Did I just use the word 'performance' when talking about an MT? I think I did!

I would suggest you remove the buy it now sale from ebay and investigate what the cause of the noise is before you sell it. It may be something small and cost minimal if its not you could then sell it . I would investigate first before taking the word of one person. Unless it was minter

I think I will.
I was so p*ssed off I just stuck it straight on FleaBay.
I'm not going to name names but it was an MT dealer .... and no, he didn't try and talk me down on price.

Think again, these bikes need a certain amount of work, to me that's the beauty of them that and the fact that most things you can do yourself. They are unique and I think most of us have had our moments but with perseverance the reward is there when they are running and you are riding. Just think if you sell it you will never hear those immortal words "is that an army bike then?" Inspirational quote follows to help you
Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not: nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not: the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent.

The MT when you get it set up and running sweet sounds a bit like a sack of spanners falling down the stairs So do not worry too much about a bit of noise, it may be something minor. If it starts and runs well there can not be too much wrong with it.. Best of luck with it.
