Hi. I'm name is Chris. I'm looking to get my first MT. I've been looking at getting one for a long time. Is there anything in particular that I need to look or for?

Welcome to the forum
Keep an eye on the Sales section and put a message in the Wanted section
If you browse the forum you will find lots of information
You dont say whether you are looking for the older MT500 with kick start only and drum brakes or a newer MT350 with electric and kick start and disc brakes but has less power

Welcome to the club Chris. have a browse around the forum, plenty of information about both the MT500 and MT350.

Welcome mate.
As above, the more modern 350 is a bit easier in some respects. MT500 (Armstrong) ownership is more tickle and fettle.
If in doubt, just ask - just ask in the correct section!
Get yourself to our Big Meet this year, you'll be welcome to try a few out Im sure.

Thanks for the advice.
I found and bought a 500 and rode it the 50 miles home
She did OK, steady 70 back along the m62. I got it home and found that the battery was dead 0.52volts :o
She is a bad starter though  :D I've stripped the amal carb and run it though the ultrasonic cleaner at work. I'm not sure if it has made much difference. Any advice gladly accepted.

The carbs have always been a weak point of the 500, but you will find plenty here about them and replacements.

So you have found that you don't need a battery when you have a kickstart, but a knackered battery is not good for the regulator so best renewed.

Hi Chris,

Welcome to the forum and congrats on your purchase.. Battery is obviously an easy fix but check the reg rectifier under the seat and that your motor is charging the new new battery..

As for a carb I'd recommend a Mikuni or Dellorto upgrade - we stock both and have had great feed back from customers fitting our carbs which have been set up on Dyno's. Starting and overall running is massively improved..

Hope that helps..
