Dambuster Dams, Germany.

Myself and four friends are going on bikes, we go in 3 weeks for a long weekend.
We sail Hull -Rotterdam Thurs night and return Sunday night.
The plan is
Friday ride from Rotterdam to Soest, where we have a hotel booked for 2 nights.
Saturday ride to the dams Mohne , Sorpe, Eder and poss Wewelsburg Castle.
Sunday ride back to Rotterdam for the ferry.
Friday and Sunday I have a few places to stop off at enroute, Arnhem museum, crash sites etc
I've read somewhere that certain roads around the dams are closed at weekends to motorbikes due to their popularity?
I have googled but can't find anything now.
Anybody been and have any advice/recommendations ?
Cheers
Stu

Hi
Visited all the 6 Dams from Operation Chastise last year and Dambusters (617 Squadron) related places, did the dams friday / saturday and no problems with the roads.
If you are travelling from / to Hull then you can do the full tour ...
1. Visit Dams: Eder, Möhne and Sorpe, (Ennepe, Diemel and Lister Dams which were secondary targets)
2. Petwood Hotel - (Officers Mess) at Woodhall Spa, Lincolnshire
3. Visit Memorial to Operation Chastise members at Woodhall Spa, Lincolnshire
4. Lincolnshire Aviation Heritage Centre (Avro Lancaster based there) at East Kirby (if you pre arrange you might be able to get a picture of your bikes in front of the Lancaster)
5. Visit RAF Scampton (Air Base)
6. Visit Derwent Dam (where they did some practicing)
let me know if you need a GPX file with the locations of the dams
Rout of Last years 10 day road trip, Dams are shown in the centre ...

Thanks for the reply.
Had a quick look at your blog looks good will have a proper look later tonight.
Not sure the gpx file will be much use to us as none of us have satnav, but thanks anyway.
One of the lads has just text me asking can we call in to Wuppertal as he wants to go on the upside down train!!
I've marked it on my map as a possible.
I'm intending to go to Lincolnshire next week with the family, sch hols next week.
The secondary dams were also a second target for us on the Friday or Sunday, were having a pub meet in a weeks time to sort out what we each want to try and see.
Are you aware a new memorial has just been unveiled on the 72nd anniversary at AJ-E's crashsite nr Haldern

We won't be blasting along on this trip as there will be me on my MT, a Guzzi V50, 2 Enfields 350 +500 and the newest a Bandit 1200 stuck behind us!
Thanks again,
Stu
