Another good outing today with Herts TRF.... lots of water. The deepest stopped me both times First when I hit something unseen under the water .....nearly dropped it......managed to get it started again on the kick starter (battery was dead - neglect! ). Very pleased to be able to get it going.

Second time...stopped half way through...chain had jumped off front sprocket and got stuck between it and engine casing....Lots of engine noise...no forward propulsion! Very wet!

The guys were great. Helped push it out, tools out... covers off....rear wheel loosened..split the chain and we managed to lever it out.

No doubt they will be posting the ritual humiliation shots I was subjected to on their forum.

A really good bunch. Excellent fun. Brilliant bike.

Anyone else experienced "interesting" chain hopping? I thought the centre stand was supposed to keep the tension up. Their best guess was a stone got underneath it and lifted it off. Any ideas?

Shouldn't be able to happen...

I've removed my centre stand on all of my bikes for same reason. Same on the MT500e. Even with max swing arm deflection chain should stay on.

What front sprocket are you using?

Was chain adjusted for this sprocket?

That's what I did a few weeks ago, bent the rear brake level and got wet and muddy.

I'm suprised at the chain jumping off the front sprocket, will be intereed to hear if this has happened to others.

I did take the main stand off and fitted a chain guide, but put it back on as it does make it easer to fix a punture, and had a spate of them last year.

Just got the off-roader MOTed today, so will have to get out and get it dirty soon.

Hi...its a standard sprocket as far as I know. The bike came from BAOR from LMS. One of the last they handled. I think 15 teeth. The chain was loose but I assumed that the centre stand would keep tensioned. Possibly it just got too loose and jumped. I cannot think of any other explanation. The idea that something got under neath the chain and made it jump doesn't sound persuasive to me. Ideas/thoughts welcome.

Chain tension is quite critical

Almost certainly was too slack...

Yep, think you are right....lazy got me! I will look in the manual (horror!) and look up just how loose/tight it is supposed to be and get it sorted tomorrow.

We tightened it up so much once we had got it unstuck that the back wheel is really hard to turn now. Asking for a snapped/broken chain!

Glad I did this with some people around.

You did better than me...

I dropped it at about the same place. Bike was completely submerged and the only way to get it going was a tow on the road to bump start it. Even that took about 1/2 mile
