I thought you ha d had some problems....Nick (the ride leader) asked me if I knew my way around the bike and if I knew how to get it going if it got waterlogged... he said that another MT had had difficulties..We then headed into that flood and I conked out....I had no electric start as the battery had been flat......no pressure then. Thankfully it started on the kick start but it hadn't been totally under water. I am not surprised it needed half a mile.

When I had dumped it in the (very sloppy) mud on my previous jaunt with Herts TRF I was shown a neat technique to get it re-started ....which is to lean it over opposite way from the way it dropped and to then hit the starter with full throttle on...that worked when it had been as dead as a do do and I was worried about losing the electric foot. Will get round to thinking that one through. Can only think it clears the carb quicker as the airways are fully open.

You're always learning with a MT....

One problem I often find is that the CV carb is very sensitive to being anything other than upright. I always have problems with air locks etc. if the bikes been dropped.

Yes Nick was the ride leader and Nigel was the guy who towed me on the road.

I agree with that statement. Usually find best getting it upright and then spend a minute or two sorting yourself out, then try and start it.

I think it floods very easily when on it's side, which may be why they came with tilt valves

I had and have the same challenge, if you find the secret cure let me know please. I think it's best to leave it, have a cup of tea, read a book and try and start it ;) Still do not have the tilt valve fitted but I do have a de-compressor.

Next time I drop it (won't be long away) I will try the technique above again and see if it was a fluke or not. It comes from the Chairman of Herts TRF so he reckons it is the way to get ll carb bikes going if they are reluctant after a fall on their side. Worked for me! Will see if repeatable.

Too many events clashing these days, I'm already joining the Beds RBLR on a ride-out to Oxfordshire on Saturday.
