Can-am oil pump

My Bombardier smokes like hell for the first 200 yards. I've found that oil is passing through the pump somehow and going into the sump, I can drain a small amount of neat oil out after being stood a while. It's a Mikuni pump, but no serial numbers that mean anything so I can't track down a repair k...

Rear suspension units

I had a feeling the rear suspension was more firm than I expected. Turned out the rear units were upside down !!
Never a dull day....
And did someone say they're a bit heavy on fuel ?........oh yes !

Re: Fork rake

Had a fresh look at the steering damper now its' off, it took a pair of pliers on the end of the plunger to free it off, now the clicks can be felt and it adjusts.
Lack of use issue, but its' staying off for now anyway.

Re: Fork rake

STOP PRESS - I requested a CD from Paul soon after finding this forum - he did say he had a lot on for a couple of weeks, it just arrived !

Can't wait to read through it

Many thanks to Paul, much appreciated.

Re: Fork rake

Thanks Marc, I found a lot of useful info on the Canam section of this MT350 forum and especially the Canned Ham site - full of VERY helpful tech stuff. I'd have been struggling for ages without the various stuff on Canned Ham. Back to the rake angle, its 26 and should be 30, it rides OK now but in ...

Re: Fork rake

Encouraged by the "proper" steering, I set to with the badly smoking and misfiring engine ; Interior of resonator part mangled by attempts to remove it, new throttle cable not properly synched to carb slide and oiler, needle in wrong groove. Now its' a fun Canam, revs clean, faint smoke only, runnin...

Re: Fork rake

On the road this afternoon, rides and steers a treat without the damper.
Sorted, quite happy not having to look at all the bits in the steering head !

Regards all.

Re: Fork rake

Thanks Jon, I've got the damper off and there is no way it changes its damping and seemingly no way of doing so. Perhaps there was a cheapo version that did'nt adjust ? The bike is supposed to have done only 3000 miles, the headstock bearings seem perfect and bear that out, but most of the bike has ...

Re: Fork rake

I keep looking into info about Bombardiers and have seen two military documents, one states 30deg, the other 28. It seems that the 19" wheel is 30 and the 21" has 28 ( standard spec ). I have spoken to someone local who has run Bombardiers, experienced bike mechanic/rider and he suggests taking off ...

Re: Best Defender galvanised chassis supplier?

My son has 3 Landy 110 restorations on the go, 1 for a new chassis, 2 large repair sections. He prefers Richards but we have not found anything perfect, we assume they're all copies of copies so it's only fair to make allowances. The big thing to watch out for is "re-conditioned" , "re-built" etc et...
