Hi
I have just brought a Harris Matchless G80, I had fancied one when they started production but the cost was prohibitive at the time. After selling two bikes I had some room in the garage so when a good one came up I had to go for it. It has only done 7,800 miles and is totally original with the exception of stainless rims and spokes. They were over geared from the factory so I need to drop a tooth on the front sprocket but I will have to either find someone to make it as there are none available, or buy a chain and sprocket set for an MT as I believe the use a different chain width. I am not to far from Sportax so I will probably take a ride over next week and see what they recommend .

Hi Joe,

Sorry, only just noticed your question about sprocket sizes. I've locked up outside, but will try to check over the weekend.

However, today I was fitting two rebuilt wheels to my Harris Matchless. I sent them off for stainless rims in February and they've only recently been finished. A beautiful job but slow. On fitting, I realised that I should really replace both sprockets and chain as well, so I'm interested in whatever solution you find with Sportax. I might do the same if Gary can help (but being in Scotland I'll need to fit them myself).

I know that the Harris Matchless used many of the same parts as the Harris Bonneville, so it's possible that the rear sprocket is a Triumph item. I'll try and find out.

Cheers,

John
