MT 500 dipstick
MT 500 dipstick
Hi All, I'm new to owning an MT, I've recently purchased an Armstrong MT500 and I'm curious as to how to accurately check the oil level, as my 500 doesn't have a dipstick attached to the filler cap, would it be possible to use the dipstick out of the blue mt 350 my partner owns

Re: MT 500 dipstick
Could anyone tell me then the correct length of the dipstick or is it possible to buy a filler cap with the dipstick attached,

Re: MT 500 dipstick
Just measured mine . 350 is 18cm. 500 is 13cm . You could dip it with a pencil of correct length I suppose
If you are happy you have enough oil to run safely , Run the engine and get it nice and warm then dip the oil when hot. When cold it is common for oil to drain back into sump and if you fill up when cold to the dipstick mark you will overfill it and a horrible mess will ensue when you start up ! It's a common MT owners been there got the t shirt experience !
On a new acquisition , best advice is drain the oil and put fresh in of correct quantity anyway and new filter

Re: MT 500 dipstick
When buying a replacement the dipstick is on the cap. I suspect your cap might be from something else that just happened to fit. If you buy a new one from LMS or Force it should come complete.

It could just be a cap that the rod, bar, thingy has fallen out of. I've got a couple of those.
