MT vs Enfield?

Post by Dave_S_MT » Wed Aug 23, 2017 6:47 pm

A while back (before I bought my MT) I briefly flirted with the idea of an Enfield Bullet - I kinda liked the look of the "Army" version and the prices are now getting close to MT territory.

Looking at an RE Army again close up today I remain convinced I made the right choice for a few reasons, but wondered whether anyone here had direct head to head comparisons of running both an MT and a RE?

The Bullet should properly be compared with the BSA WM20's and Matchless G3L's that the army used post-war up to about 1967 since the engine technology was similar. It would be very difficult to compare it with an MT in terms of either its capability or its technology although, as with classic British motorbikes in general, they can still be fun to ride!.

Well this is no fun - I was expecting at least a little banter on this subject. Similar price, quirky, old, slow, basic bikes with a cult following.... ;-)

hi..i run both , but my RE is the electra x leanburn which is great fun to ride although I find the gearbox hard work (too many neutrals) but its great popping along at 50 mph making a fantastic noise (a head turner). But I like my mt350 too for different reasons...its also good fun to ride, nice smooth gearbox, great fun off road, so its hard to decide as it depends if you want to ride on or off road.
