Armstrong CCM 500 CMX Fuel Tank ?

Post by Armstrongmark » Sat Aug 03, 2019 7:14 am

Hello

I have restored my barn find Armstrong CCM 500 CMX
Rebuilt shocks, powder coated frame, new carb, rebuilt seat, rebuilt tank etc etc
Two problems
There’s an oil leak somewhere haven’t found it...
The fuel goes gloopy in the rebuilt tank despite having it professionally rebuilt and sealed.

Does anyone have a decent tank ?
Do you know anyone who can seal my tank properly ?
Do any other tanks fit the Armstrong CCM 500 CMX ?
Can anyone suggest how I fix this ?

Oil leak ? Although far away from London, Sportax Racing is the outfit you need

Fuel tank issue? Treat your tank with POR-15. It's a 3 stage process with chemicals to
1)Clean thoroughly-swill out often, could be tricky to remove the bloop you now have in the tank !
2) Prime- chemicals to stabilise the metal
3) Sealer- pour in tank and swill around to cover all surfaces ( You must remove fuel tap and mask off the thread)

The process takes a while because you must ensure that there is absolutely no moisture, so leave for a couple of days between stages. You need some form of hot air blower, a hair dryer does the job. I've done it on 3 tanks but as a precautionary measure-no prior leaks.. It dries rock hard, they claim it will seal small holes. After 5 years it was still good as the day it was done

Do you have any photo's ? I have the same bike to rebuild and would be interested to see it,
I also have a damaged tank that has been repaired.
It has also been converted to twin shock. So I am wondering if I can find a mono shock replacement or leave it ?

I kept the Ohlins mono shock on the rear and the front forks too and had them all rebuilt by Brook Suspension
