Georges MT parts

Post by P.I.STAKER » Thu Jan 19, 2012 7:18 pm

I have run this by the admin team.

Having lost the use of a decent lathe at work, I was struggling to find anywhere to have items manufactured. I decided to buy a smaller lathe and have finally set up a small workshop in my shed.
While I have been working my way through my own mt500 restoration I have been measuring, drawing and manufacturing some of my own parts from stainless steel.
List and photos to follow.

Some of the parts include;

Front wheel bearing spacer, both inner and outer
Rear wheel and hub inner bearing spacers.
Rear wheel L/H outer spacer (can be split in 2 for easier installation)
Exhaust header clamp spacers
Footpeg spring spacers
Foot brake lever bush
Rear brake rod, cam and knurled adjuster
Binnacle/instrument cluster bush inserts
Handle bar clamp bush inserts
Side stand olite bushes and insert

Much prefer stainless, no rust, no painting and looks better generally.

More to follow, like looking into making some bar ends for open grips, basically just to hide the holes in the end of the bars.

Also made up some bearing installers from ally, list and photos to follow.

Members can also request any other parts they require, will have to send a drawing with accurate dimensions, or send me a pattern.
At the moment this will be non-interference items, such as spacers, inserts etc

I am now in a position to open this up to club members, if anyone is interested?
Prices will be cost including p&p plus a small amount for any extras, which will include a donation to the club for all items.

Just to add, this will not be a quick service, i.e. the next day, it will be as and when work/time allows. Usually within a couple of weeks.

If I can help in anyway please pm me.

I can definatly recommend George's handy work! I've had 2 rear brake rods, one on blue and one for my 604 project. Plus other bits and pieces too. The knurled adjuster is a work of art and looks the biz!

I have one of the rear brake rods and the split rear wheel spacer fitted to my bike they are top quality and the feel/power of the rear brake is much improved over the standard rod which has a spring like quality.

Nice work George, the rose joint on the brake rod is a lovely touch.

Don't shout too loudly about the stainless though, you'll only get some moron telling you that it'll lead to a horrible death

This is brilliant.

I needed a bush making and spent hours searching for an engineer locally to make it, to no avail.

The one man bands with a lathe are getting few and far bewteen.

You are doing the club a great service.

Just wish I was interested enough in the bike to take you up on it.
