Thanks to all for the great advice :-)

I will have to get the garage insulated first, I do have a couple of old bikes in there and some tools I keep in the house in winter so condensation and rust don't get to them. Dial gauges and similar stuff don't like the condensation and there is always plenty of that in the garage!

I have toyed with the idea of running something off the central heating, maybe not as silly an idea as I first thought.
