Honda CB500XA
Hi Guys
I have been considering getting one of these as a cheap commuter (50 miles a day) Any one had any experience of them ? Good or Bad !
Dave.

Hi Dave,

Actually I do. I've just bought one a few days ago, a 2014 model with panniers. Ive done about 400 miles on it so this is certainly not a long term test :)

Very nice riding position, not massively dissimilar from the MT stance.
The engine is pretty narrow and so filtering is easy.
I took it on a 233 mile trek down to the south coast and back and it performed brilliantly, the trip computer said that I had averaged at 77mpg, but when i filled the tank it calculated more like 90mpg!!! The tank is about 17 litres so really should be good for near on 300 miles (I guess that does depend on your throttle style!)
The gearbox is a little clunky and sometimes I've had to let the clutch out just a bit if downchanging when I've come to a sudden stop.
Lights look good but not really dark enough when I've been riding to test it out.
Enough real world power to be useful for overtakes and touring too. My mate has the cbr500 and he's just come back from a 4000 mile tour round Europe and the bike worked perfectly.

All in all I'm really looking forward to playing on this a bit more. Definitely try one out :)
